Tim Miller for Congress announces Howard Root to serve as Campaign Finance Chairperson

August 15, 2017 – Alexandria, MN…  Tim Miller, the fresh voice for Congress representing Minnesota’s Seventh Congressional District, is pleased to announce that Minnesota business and conservative leader Howard Root will serve as Campaign Finance Chairperson.

A native Minnesotan, Howard Root started Vascular Solutions, Inc. in 1997 and led the medical device company for over 20 years in inventing, developing and launching over 100 new products used to treat cardiovascular disease.  Under Howard’s leadership, Vascular Solutions created over 650 full-time jobs (over 500 in Minnesota) and generated over $1B in revenue before being sold to Teleflex Incorporated in February 2017.

On his appointment as Campaign Finance Chairperson, Howard made the following comments: “After my early retirement following the sale of Vascular Solutions, I decided to become an advocate for political candidates in Minnesota who commit to working to improve our dysfunctional political culture.  In Tim Miller I found just such a candidate – someone who’s not only a fresh voice in a race against a 28-year D.C. insider, but also an authentic conservative who has worked hard his entire life.  The more I’ve gotten to know Tim, the more I’m sure that he is what’s needed to improve Minnesota’s Seventh District, a district where my mother was born and raised. I am happy to endorse Tim and work as his Campaign Finance Chair to help get him elected to Congress.”

Tim Miller added the following: “It’s a true honor to welcome Howard to our team.  His business success and first-hand knowledge of the job-killing effects of vast and intrusive federal regulations adds a great perspective to our growing campaign.  I believe it’s time to replace business as usual in D.C. with a fight for rural Minnesota, and it’s time the Seventh District had a representative who understands what needs to be done to create a better future. I am very pleased that Howard will help our campaign get that message out to voters from now through November 2018.”

Howard Root joins a growing number of political and business leaders who are publicly supporting Tim Miller in his campaign, including Representative Glenn Gruenhagen and his wife Emily, former MN-07 Chairwoman and Lac Qui Parle Chair Judie Rosendahl, Representative Kathy Lohmer, Senator Andrew Lang, Representative John Poston and Representative Steve Green.

Tim Miller is a father, husband, veteran, small business owner and Minnesota State Representative.  Tim was born into a blue-collar family and raised in a 900-square foot home with six under one roof.  Tim pursued the American dream early on by working to put himself through college and joining the U.S. Army Reserve.  After college, Tim started a painting company and currently owns a consulting firm.  In 2014, Tim won election to the Minnesota House of Representatives by 11% against an incumbent in a district that had been held by the DFL for over three decades. Tim was reelected in 2016 by an 18% margin. Tim and his wife, Cherie, live in Prinsburg in Kandiyohi Country where they have been blessed with a blended family of seven children and four grandchildren.
